Linkin Park To Headline 'Transformers' Premiere In Moscow

Band will play a 'Dark of the Moon'-themed outdoor concert on June 23.

"Transformers: Dark of the Moon" promises to dive deeply into the franchise's mythology, reaching back to America's 1960s-era space race with the Soviets to expand upon humanity's contact with the alien robots. The new film will also stay true to the musical roots it laid down in 2007, when Linkin Park contributed the opening song to the film's soundtrack, as the band will not only contribute again to the soundtrack but, in a newly announced move, will perform in Moscow for the flick's premiere.

Linkin Park will perform in an outdoor concert at Vasilyevsky Spusk of the Red Square, with the Kremlin and St. Basil's Basilica looming in the background, on June 23, Paramount said in a press release. The concert coincides with the world premiere of "Dark of the Moon" at the Moscow International Film Festival.

During the show, LP is set to play "Iridescent," a remix of their Thousand Suns tune that is the end title song for "Dark of the Moon." Earlier this year, MTV News visited the set of the band's music video for the track.

"When Michael Bay called us about putting a song in the new 'Transformers' movie, the one that came immediately to mind was 'Iridescent' because it's been a fan favorite at the shows," vocalist Mike Shinoda told us. "It's definitely a less in-your-face song. There's a somber tone to it and a hopeful tone to it. ... Michael actually loved pairing it with the movie because there's something that he feels it speaks to about the story line."

The collaboration marks the third straight time the band has been involved with the franchise. LP's "What I've Done," a double-platinum single off and their multiplatinum Minutes to Midnight, was featured on the first film's soundtrack. And the second film, "Revenge of the Fallen," included "New Divide," a tune that has been downloaded more than 3 million times and spent three months at the top of the Billboard rock chart.

LP's Moscow concert falls in the midst of their European summer tour, which kicks off in Austria on June 11 and continues through Germany, Italy, France and other locales before wrapping up in London on July 4. The 3-D "Dark of the Moon," meanwhile, hits U.S. theaters on June 29 — two days earlier than originally planned.

Check out everything we've got on "Transformers: Dark of the Moon."

Atlantic Records Co-Founder Ahmet Ertegun Dies

Music pioneer, 83, helped launch careers of Ray Charles, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones and more.
By Corey Moss

Ahmet Ertegun, co-founder and longstanding chairman of Atlantic Records and the man who helped introduce the world to Ray Charles, Led Zeppelin and countless others, died Thursday (December 14) of a brain injury. He was 83.

The mogul — born into the wealthy family of a Turkish ambassador — never retired and was attending a New York concert by the Rolling Stones (one of the many bands he signed) on October 29 when he fell and incurred the injury. Perhaps fitting of the two worlds he brought together, the event was a 60th birthday party for former President Bill Clinton.

Ertegun, who survived triple-bypass surgery in 2001, later slipped into a coma and died with his family at his side.

In recent years, Ertegun was immortalized in films like "Beyond the Sea" about Atlantic artist Bobby Darin and "Ray," which portrayed how he not only discovered Charles, but promoted him before R&B was a genre, produced much of his music and wrote hits like "Mess Around."

He's also namedropped in Atlantic artist Kid Rock's single "You Never Met a Mother----er Quite Like Me" in the verse, "I'm a seasoned vet/ Educated on jazz by my man Ahmet/ Ertegun my friend."

Indeed, Ertegun was an avid aficianado of jazz as well as blues when, in 1947, he borrowed $10,000 from his dentist to launch Atlantic Records. He never pigeonholed the label, though, and opened his arms to then-genre-defying artists like Charles and soul singer Aretha Franklin, two of his biggest early successes. Ertegun once described Atlantic as "purveyors of African-American music" long before the arrival of Motown Records.

Ertegun was widely known for his ability to befriend anyone, and that showed in his label, as Atlantic expanded into rock and later hip-hop.

As legend has it, Ertegun persuaded the Rolling Stones to sign with Atlantic after pretending to fall asleep at a Chuck Berry concert they attended together, knowing Mick Jagger despised pushy execs.

He's also credited with convincing Crosby, Stills & Nash to tour with Neil Young, spawning one of the greatest supergroups in rock. Through Atlantic and its offshoots and affiliates, Ertegun had a hand in seminal works from Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, Otis Redding, the Drifters, Sam & Dave, John Coltrane, Bette Midler, Sonny & Cher, ABBA and many, many others.

"Ahmet touched the lives of artists, producers, songwriters and countless others who were blessed by his creativity, wisdom and humor," Atlantic President Julie Greenwald said Thursday. "He changed the music and he changed the music business, and he is the inspiration to an entire new generation of music people who will strive to follow in his amazing footsteps. Equally at home in New Orleans juke joints and foreign embassies, Ahmet was a human being of rare character, style and humility. He was the real deal, and the world will be a far lesser place without him."

"Ahmet brought integrity, vision, style and class to the music business," added Jerry Heller, co-founder of Eazy-E's Ruthless Records, with whom Ertegun released hip-hop's first West Coast gold record. "A giant among mere mortals, his presence will be sorely missed by those of us who had the privilege of knowing him."

Along with his Atlantic work, Ertegun was also a founder and chairman of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which inducted him in 1987 and gave the Museum's main exhibition hall in Cleveland his name.

"From Aretha to Zeppelin, Ahmet was instrumental in breaking many of the iconic artists of the last 50 years," said Terry Stewart, president and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. "The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame would not be what it is today without his leadership."

In 1993, Ertegun was presented with a Trustees Award from the Recording Academy, and in 2000, he was honored as a Living Legend by the United States Library of Congress. "Ahmet Ertegun was a true visionary whose life's work had a profound impact on our culture's musical landscape," Recording Academy President Neil Portnow said. "This is truly a sad day for the music industry and for music lovers everywhere, but his legacy will shine on forever."

"I feel so privileged to be able to say that Ahmet Ertegun was a mentor," added Lyor Cohen, Warner Music Group's U.S. chairman and CEO. "Here was a man who combined substance and style like no one else, who affected millions upon millions of people through the music his artists created, who nurtured those artists under his watchful eye. We were blessed to have him."

Ertegun will be buried in a private ceremony in his native Turkey, although a public memorial service will be conducted in New York early next year.

Joel Madden spoke on Ryan Seacrest's radio show on Tuesday (September 18) about his plans to marry Nicole Richie, People reports. The Good Charlotte rocker — who saw his marriage-proposal secret slip after Regis Philbin spilled the beans — told Seacrest, "Obviously, marriage is in our future. I don't know when or where or how, but right now our priority is our family and is the baby. That's all we've been thinking about. We are in love and are really happy." Richie announced on "Good Morning America" in late July that she was four months pregnant. And it looks like Madden is taking on some of the shopping responsibilities. "I already went to Target and got a stroller and a playpen," he told Seacrest. ...

Vanessa Hudgens, who has recently been dogged by leaked nude photos, is facing a new problem: The "High School Musical" star's attorney is suing her for $150,000 in unpaid fees, TMZ.com reports. The suit, filed by Brian L. Schall, alleges that she owes him for contract-signing services dating back to October 2005 and that he wants 5 percent of her earnings. ...

Kanye West and Jay-Z were all smiles on Tuesday, the day before the first-week-sales figures for 'Ye's Graduation and 50 Cent's competing Curtis were due to be released. "Everyone is coming up to me and telling me how proud they are of me," West told The Associated Press, adding, "it feels overwhelming." Jay was a bit more cautious in his enthusiasm over the yet-unannounced results, saying, "We're not gloating. He's celebrating his win ... in his mind, he believed he could win the whole time." ...

Hell has frozen over ... and Zack de la Rocha has finally put the finishing touches on his forever-in-the-works solo LP, Billboard reports. According to the news outlet, sources say de la Rocha plays keyboards on the yet-untitled effort — which has been in the works since the singer initially left Rage Against the Machine in 2000 — and that it sounds like a cross between Led Zeppelin and Dr. Dre. Ex-Mars Volta drummer Jon Theodore also collaborated heavily on the album, according to Billboard, and some of it was recently recorded at Jack Johnson's Los Angeles studio. De la Rocha is reportedly unsigned and considering offers for how to distribute the LP. ...

Nicole Scherzinger is launching her second single this week, "Baby Love" (featuring Will.I.Am). But the Black Eyed Pea doesn't get to play her love interest in the video, despite the song being "about us being in love." "I love Will, but I'm not in love with Will," the singer laughed. "I have a guy playing my lover, a sweet guy with a great energy that I cast for it." Francis Lawrence (Britney Spears, Gwen Stefani) directed the clip, which takes place off the coast of Southern California's Catalina Island. ... Fat Joe has hooked up with Imperial Records — a division of Capitol and Terror Squad — for the release of his eighth album, The Elephant in the Room. The LP, due early next year, will be studded with stars: Diddy, Rick Ross and Fabolous make guest appearances, while Scott Storch, Danjahandz and DJ Khaled lend their production skills. ...

The last of four secret Van Halen rehearsal shows reportedly took place Sunday night in Los Angeles before more than 500 fans — including guitarists Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine and Kirk Hammett of Metallica. Also on hand, apparently, was Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Zakk Wylde, who attempted to get onstage during the set but was denied by frontman David Lee Roth. In a video making the rounds on the Internet, Wylde, who appeared to be in the front row, tried to hoist himself onto the stage. Security shuffled in to remove him, but Roth took to the microphone. "Nah, nah, nah. Are you in show biz?" he said. "Then get off the stage. Get off the f---ing stage." ...

Legendary punk rockers the Sex Pistols have announced that they'll squeeze into their bondage pants again for one night only on November 8 at the Brixton Academy in London for a 30th anniversary celebration of the release of their landmark 1977 album, Never Mind the Bollocks ... Here's the Sex Pistols. Original singer John Lydon, guitarist Steve Jones, drummer Paul Cook and bassist Glen Matlock will be on hand for the show, the group's first in more than four years. Bollocks, the only studio album recorded by the Pistols, features such punk classics as "God Save the Queen" and "Anarchy in the U.K." ...

The Gorillaz are prepping their second B-sides collection, D-Sides. The 22-track double-disc is slated for release November 6 and will feature demos; B-sides ("68 State," "Murdoc Is God," "Hongkongaton"); and remixes of songs like "Kids With Guns" and "Dare" by everyone from DFA and Hot Chip to Jamie T and Soulwax. ... Our long national nightmare is over ... sort of. After years of holding out, Radiohead have finally begun offering their albums for download. The group, which has held back from offering landmarks like The Bends and OK Computer to iTunes in the past because of its dislike for the site's practice of allowing individual songs for download, is now offering all its albums and some early singles in a high-quality, DRM-free format on 7digital.com. The albums will only be sold as complete packages. ...

David Bowie has made a $10,000 donation to the Jena Six Legal Defense Fund and is lending his voice to aid the six black teenagers who defenders have said faced overly aggressive prosecution and extended incarceration over their role in an alleged altercation with a white classmate in the small town (population: 3,000) of Jena, Louisiana, last year. The teens are alleged to have assaulted a white student in December, months after an incident on campus in which three nooses were hung on a tree at the local high school set off a series of tense, racially charged confrontations. "There is clearly a separate and unequal judicial process going on in the town of Jena," Bowie said in a statement. "A donation to the Jena Six Legal Defense Fund is my small gesture indicating my belief that a wrongful charge and sentence should be prevented." Thousands of people, including rapper Mos Def, are expected to descend on the town on Thursday to protest the prosecution of the five teenagers and a minor. ...

Wesley Snipes must pay United Talent Agency $1.7 million in a default judgment issued Tuesday, according to CBS News. The company, which helped the "Blade" actor get roles in multiple films, sued him in July 2006 for an alleged breach of oral contract. Dave Grohl has opened up to U.K. newspaper The Guardian about the death of his former Nirvana bandmate Kurt Cobain. "Kurt dying shocked me into running away from music for a while," he divulged. "I started Foo Fighters because I didn't want to retreat. I couldn't imagine joining another band and sitting behind the drum set, because I would always think about Krist [Novoselic] and Kurt." Grohl also revealed that while one of the Foos' earliest songs, "I'll Stick Around," was not directed at Cobain's ex-wife, Courtney Love, he wouldn't be surprised if similar comparisons are made over "Let It Die." The song, featured on the Foos' new album, Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace, features the lyric "A simple man and his blushing bride/ Intravenous, intertwined." The tune was "written about feeling helpless to someone else's demise," Grohl said. "I've seen people lose it all to drugs and heartbreak and death. It's happened more than once in my life, but the one that's most noted is Kurt. And there are a lot of people that I've been angry with in my life, but the one that's most noted is Courtney. So it's pretty obvious to me that those correlations are gonna pop up every now and again. I still remain a little secretive about it all." ...

Even at Sunday night's Emmys, where he wasn't nominated for anything, Kanye West couldn't win. The rapper notorious for loudly expressing his award-show-freeze-out frustrations playfully lampooned his sore-loser reputation during a skit in which actor Rainn Wilson ("The Office") beat Kanye at a game of "Don't Forget the Lyrics" based on 'Ye's song "Stronger," with the loser doomed to retiring from show business. After West slipped up and sang "that's how long I've been on you," comedian Wayne Brady joked that Mr. West picked "the wrong time to speak properly," pointing out that the lyric ends with the words "on ya." A smiling West exclaimed, "I never win!" The consolation? West had a front-row seat for the Los Angeles ceremony, right next to multiple winner Tony Bennett. Later on in the evening, he popped over to Justin Timberlake's concert at the Staples Center for a rendition of West's "Stronger," according to TMZ.com. ...

The stars of "High School Musical" are still in negotiations for a third flick, Corbin Bleu told People magazine. "Truthfully as long as it's a good script and as long as everybody is being paid fairly, I would be more than happy to go and have one last hurrah," he said. The 18-year-old actor also revealed that he's never actually been to an "HSM" premiere due to various scheduling conflicts. ... Comic book fan Ghostface Killah is partnering with Adult Swim for a free tour set to hit college campuses next month. Will Ferrell isn't your typical actor, so it makes sense he wouldn't be your typical charity donor either — he's raising money for a friend's cancer foundation by auctioning a cameo spot in his new flick, The Associated Press reports. Online bidding for an appearance in "Step Brothers" began Monday and ends September 26, and the opening bid was $5,000. The winner will be announced September 27; get to meet with Ferrell at the Cancer for College golf tournament dinner at Temecula Creek Inn in Temecula, California; and shoot a scene with the actor in October. The proceeds will go to Craig Pollard's Cancer for College foundation — Pollard and Ferrell were fraternity brothers at the University of Southern California. ...

Apparently Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor plans to disband the group's current lineup following the final gig on its current tour, which is set for Tuesday in Honolulu. Reznor told Honolulu's Star-Bulletin that he wants "to switch things around a bit." Nine Inch Nails, he said, "as a rock band configuration [has] done it and we've done it again. I see other ways I can present the material in concert, more challenging, something new. I don't want it to go stale." The band has been touring together for more than two years and currently includes drummer Josh Freese, guitarist Aaron North, bassist Jeordie White and keyboardist Alessandro Cortini. ... Marilyn Manson is teaming up with a French family-run distillery, Matter-Luginbuehl, to produce thousands of bottles of his own brand of absinthe, called "Mansinthe." Live Nation, which runs the House of Blues chain, has either canceled or moved to alternate venues five heavy-metal concerts previously scheduled at House of Blues clubs located on Walt Disney Co. property in Anaheim, California, and Orlando, Florida, according to the Los Angeles Times. In Anaheim, a gig that had been booked two months earlier and was set to feature Machine Head, Arch Enemy, Throwdown and Sanctity on September 7 was moved to a different venue; a show that was supposed to feature Cannibal Corpse, the Black Dahlia Murder, the Red Chord and the Absence on September 13 was also shifted to a different club; and Obituary's planned September 26 concert has been canceled. Two other shows, scheduled for the House of Blues in Orlando, have been moved as well. John Vlautin, vice president of communications for Live Nation, said in a statement that "House of Blues offers a range of entertainment to match the audience at our venues. It was determined that the mix of entertainment at our two Disney locations should be different from our other venues." ...

After months of delays, the free-download site SpiralFrog finally launched on Monday, offering users the chance to choose from more than 700,000 songs and 3,500 videos from a number of independent labels and Universal Music Group acts like Amy Winehouse, Timbaland, Rihanna and Fall Out Boy. The ad-supported site requires users to wait 90 seconds while downloading tracks and sign in every month to answer some questions about their buying habits. Rihanna Director Talks Upcoming 'Man Down' Video

The video 'is certainly gonna flip people's minds,' says Anthony Mandler.

Rihanna has teamed up once again with director Anthony Mandler for the singer's forthcoming "Man Down" video. Having just released their sun-drenched, dreamy clip for "California King Bed," the duo will shift gears for this video.

"We've done 16 videos together; they're not all tough," Mandler said when asked about what fans can expect from the new clip. " 'If I Never See Your Face Again,' 'Hate That I Love You,' 'Take a Bow'... Yeah, I mean, I'm known for the 'Disturbia's and the 'Russian Roulette's and things like that, but 'Only Girl (In the World)' is certainly an ethereal kind of empowering, beauty-filled video and what we're coming with next ... is certainly gonna flip people's minds with 'Man Down.' "

Mandler didn't give too much away, but he did reveal that this clip will have her fans talking once it does premiere. "We shot the video last month in Jamaica and it's my favorite song she's ever recorded, so I was really excited to get involved," he said. "And it's just one of those songs that demands a strong narrative and visual, and let's just say she let me go all the way. So I think you can expect something that's dramatic and shocking and intense and emotional and uplifting and enlightening."

The reggae-tinged tune tells the story of a young woman who guns down a man and is seeking some forgiveness for her actions. So, will Rihanna wield a firearm in the clip? "Without saying too much, if you're looking for a narrative you're not going to be disappointed," Mandler shared. "Just know that it's going to be exciting."

Third Eye Blind Manage #3 Debut As Reba McEntire Tops Charts

Kings of Leon continue to hold strong on Billboard, nearly a year after album's release.

Congrats to country queen Reba McEntire for notching her second #1 country album debut with Keep on Loving You, which will take the top spot on the Billboard 200 next week, thanks to sales of 96,000, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan.

But the real story is down a few spots at #3, where 1990s alterna-pop forgotten souls Third Eye Blind will stage a triumphant return to the upper echelons of the charts with their first album in six years, Ursa Major. In fact, this bow is the highest any Third Eye Blind album has ever placed on the charts, and while the reappearance from the once multi-platinum hitmakers might seem surprising, if you've been to one of their shows lately, you might have noticed that a whole new generation of young fans have discovered their sugar-buzz pop bombs, and they appear to have gone out to their local megamart and actually plunked down money for a CD. Then again, a bargain $3.99 price at the Amazon.com MP3 store probably helped downloads, which accounted for more than half of the album's 49,000 first-week sales.

Other than 3EB's triumph, next week's chart is in a virtual holding pattern. Last week's #1, country king George Strait's Twang, shed 61 percent of its business to drop to #2 on sales of 61,000, while the Kings of Leon continued their strong showing, easing up a spot to #4 (45,000) as the one-year anniversary of Only by the Night approaches. Elsewhere in the top 10: the Black Eyed Peas slip a pair to #5 with The E.N.D. (Energy Never Dies) (41,000); Neil Diamond's Hot August Night NYC live album moves down four spots from its debut last week to #6 (39,000); and the "Hannah Montana" movie soundtrack storms up seven to #7 (38,000), thanks to a 41 percent increase in business following the DVD release of the movie. Taylor Swift's relentless Fearless bumps up one spot to #8 (34,000), switching places with Daughtry's Leave This Town (#9, 33,000), and the Now That's What I Call Music! 31 compilation rounds out the top 10 (33,000).

Just outside to top 10, Sean Paul's Imperial Blaze drops in at #12 (28,000), and Grammy-nominated singer Ledisi hits #14 with Turn Me Loose (27,000). New Orleans keyboard rockers Mutemath have a decent showing at #18 for their latest, Armistice (18,000). Comedian Patton Oswalt, current star of the sports-themed flick "Big Fan," rolls into the #67 spot with his in-concert album My Weakness Is Strong (7,000). Costumed metallers Gwar make it to #96 with Lust in Space (5,000), and Raconteurs singer/guitarist Brendan Benson squeaked in at #110 with his truly excellent, '70s-splashed solo album, My Old, Familiar Friend (4,000).

Further down the list, the mixtape-like soundtrack to Quentin Tarantino's #1 movie, "Inglourious Basterds," limps in at #132 (3,000). Mind-numbingly catchy "Evacuate the Dancefloor" act Cascada is just behind at #155 with the album of the same name (3,000), and prolific indie punk Jay Reatard lands at #182 with his Watch Me Fall (2,000).

Next week could bring some new names in the top 10, with releases from Colbie Caillat, Arctic Monkeys, Queen Latifah and Ingrid Michaelson.

Wiz Khalifa 'Black And Yellow' Remix Video Hits The Net

Snoop Dogg, T-Pain and Juicy J throw on the Pittsburgh upstart's hometown colors for laid-back 'G-mix' clip.

Photo: MTV News

Wiz Khalifa has a warning in the new video for his "Black and Yellow" remix: Caution! The Pittsburgh rapper premiered the video online on Friday (January 7), and rap stars Snoop Dogg, T-Pain and Three 6 Mafia's Juicy J all turn up for Wiz's "G-mix" visual.

Directed by Bill Paladino and shot in Los Angeles, the visual features plenty of police-style caution tape (Get it? Black and yellow?) as the green-thumb lyricist spits choice rhymes about baked goods and such.

"Never treat you wrong, to each his own," Snoop, sporting a black-and-yellow varsity jacket embossed with a giant "S," raps on the breezy number. "Snoop and Wiz, the new Cheech and Chong/ We up in smoke, making street schemes/ Smoking sticky green, having sweet dreams."

"Black and yellow, ahh, black and yellow/ See me now they treating me like I'm somebody special," Wiz follows Snoop on his verse. "Smoking on that good, know it's me soon as they smell it/ You can chill/ I'm the one who get it, not the one who sell it/ I grind every day, I'm balling/ I can't help it/ N---as on that bullsh--, my pockets full of Celtics."

The pair recently re-teamed for "That Good," which arrived online last week; the track is the first offering from the duo's forthcoming movie.

The "Black and Yellow" remix clip is set to premiere on MTV this Sunday and on MTV Jams as a "Jam of the Week" and will also appear on MTV2's "Sucker Free" at 11 a.m. and 11 p.m. Sunday.

Sierra's lawyer reportedly said he is consulting with doctors to map out a comprehensive drug and alcohol plan for the ex-"Idol" contestant, who is currently being held without bail. Sierra is to remain in jail at least until her next hearing on December 20. ...

Indie-rockers, state attorneys general and anti-smoking activists are finding themselves on the same side, oddly enough — some of them are reportedly peeved about an ad for Camel cigarettes that appeared alongside a cartoon-heavy indie-rock feature in the magazine's November 15 issue, Pitchfork reports. R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. has stopped promotions for its "The Farm" marketing campaign after nine attorneys general sued the company over the ads, according to North Carolina's Winston-Salem Journal. More states are reportedly expected to also sue R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., which could face a fine of more than $100 million for violating a 1998 agreement between 46 states and tobacco manufacturers. It sounds like U2 might be going back to the future on their upcoming album. The band, which flirted with dance beats and techno on such albums as 1991's Achtung Baby, is incorporating trance, metal and Moroccan influences on its new disc, according to an interview with Bono in The Independent. The singer said fans will "feel the difference. ... Normally when you play a U2 tune, it clears the dance floor. And that may not be true of this. There's some trance influences." He also said the yet-untitled and unscheduled album has some "very hardcore guitar" and "real molten metal" from guitarist the Edge that doesn't sound "like anything we've ever done before, and we don't think it sounds like anything anyone else has done either." Though he wouldn't categorize the album as "world" music, Bono said its sound was inspired in part by a religious music festival the guys attended in Fez, Morocco, where they were exposed to Sufi music. "It was a real humbling thing for a punk-rock shouter, listening to these people who just close their eyes for 40 minutes and sing the most sophisticated melodies." So far, U2 have recorded enough material for two records, he added. ...

Unlike Lindsay Lohan and Nicole Richie, Kiefer Sutherland is not getting off easy with his DUI — the "24" actor has been sentenced to 48 days in a Los Angeles County jail for his September 24 arrest and violating his probation. The actor must start serving his sentence at the Glendale City Jail prior to March 30, UsMagazine.com reports. He has also been sentenced to five years of probation, must finish a year-and-a-half-long alcohol-education program and go to weekly therapy sessions for a half-year. Sutherland, who had a previous DUI before his fall arrest, had been pulled over by police after making an illegal U-turn and reportedly blew twice the legal blood-alcohol level during a breathalyzer test. He issued a statement after entering a no-contest plea in early October, saying, "I'm very disappointed in myself for the poor judgment I exhibited recently, and I'm deeply sorry for the disappointment and distress this has caused my family, friends and co-workers on '24' and at 20th Century Fox." ... Contrasting with Sutherland's devastating news, Richie caught a break on Wednesday when her court-mandated anti-drinking program granted the socialite a leave of absence, according to People. Coordinators at the program were reportedly worried for Richie's safety, with her rep saying such leaves of absence are granted to people with medical conditions and that she did not get special treatment. Richie is eight months pregnant and has to complete the 18-month program as part of her DUI plea deal ...

Bad news for Vanessa Hudgens: A Los Angeles judge ruled Wednesday (December 5) that a breach-of-contract suit by her former lawyer can go forward, according to CBS News. Brian L. Schall is suing the "The High School Musical" star for breach of contract, although Hudgens has argued that she was a minor at the time she signed the agreement and therefore isn't bound to it. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Tricia Ann Bigelow said the matter of Hudgens disaffirming her contractual obligations within a reasonable time period is a "factual issue," and that Hudgens' decision to wait until she was 18 years and 9 months old to reject the contract is an issue for either a jury decision or a motion for summary judgment. The next hearing in the case is slated for January 15. ... Lindsay Lohan might be facing another setback too: Raymundo Ortega, the busboy who is seeking $200,000 in damages stemming from Lohan's collision with his van in October 2005, says he has proof the starlet was drinking before the crash, according to The Associated Press. He reportedly filed papers Tuesday. ...

An interview with T.I. that was conducted prior to his October arrest on gun charges appears in the December/January issue of Rap-Up magazine, which features him and Nicole Scherzinger on alternate covers. "I want to build a Home Depot or a Wal-Mart, shopping centers," he told the mag. Tip cited Tupac as the rapper who had the most influence on him growing up — and called out some other big names for keeping him out of trouble. "Sometimes I be wildin' out, then [Suge Knight says,] 'Man, you got too much going on, you can't do that. It ain't like the old days,' " said the rapper, who is currently under house arrest. For her part, Nicole Scherzinger named Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, Gwen Stefani, Diana Ross and Michael Jackson as the singers she admires the most. She also talked about someone else you may have heard of — Kanye West — and why the tracks he produced for her solo debut didn't make the cut. "I wasn't able to really finish them in time," said the singer, whose Her Name Is Nicole LP is due January 29. "When I have the right time and the right album, I wanna finish those songs. There was talks of putting Common on one of them." Scherzinger also talked about shooting her "Whatever U Like" video with the other Rap-Up cover artist, T.I. "When we did the video it was crazy 'cause we were all up in each other's grills, like [director] Paul Hunter really made us go there, but it was great. He's a professional. Paul was making us tug on each other; we were hard-core for a hot second." ...

Journey are counting a new singer among their ranks: Arnel Pineda. The Filipino crooner, who previously covered the band's songs with his group the Zoo, is the third Journey singer in two years — he follows Jeff Scott Soto, who left the fold earlier this year after filling in for Steve Augeri, who split with the band in 2006 due to medical reasons. "I know they'll expect me to sound exactly like 'the voice,' " Pineda said in a statement, referring to yet another former Journey singer: Steve Perry. "But that will never happen. I know there's only one Steve Perry in this world." "Arnel doesn't sound synthetic and he's not emulating anyone," added guitarist Neal Schon, who discovered the singer's Zoo clips online. "I tried to get a hold of him through YouTube and I finally heard from him ... but it took some convincing to get him to believe that it really was me and not an imposter." ...

The one guy who seemed kind of charmed by Borat's antics in last year's "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan" has joined the parade of people suing the fake Kazakh reporter. According to Reuters, driving instructor Michael Psenicska's suit against the film's makers and star Sacha Baron Cohen claims that he was tricked into participating in a film that he was led to believe was a "documentary about the integration of foreign people into the American way of life." Psenicska said he was paid $500 in cash to give Borat a driving lesson and described the experience as "surreal," saying Cohen drove erratically down residential streets, drank alcohol and yelled to a female pedestrian that he would pay her $10 for "sexy time." Psenicska is seeking $100,000 in compensatory damages and additional punitive damages for being misled, and for the emotional harm he allegedly continues to suffer. Psenicska said if he had known the true nature of the film, he never would have participated. The studio behind the flick said the suit had no merit and that Psenicska was a willing participant in the film. ...

Trent Reznor will help feed his eager fans this week as Nine Inch Nails' first batch of studio tracks in almost six years hits stores.

With Teeth, led by the single "The Hand That Feeds," is NIN's first studio album since the two-disc set The Fragile in 1999. "Only" is slated to be the second single off the album Reznor has described as being more mainstream and audience-friendly than some of NIN's previous material.

The Unquestionable Truth, Pt. 1 follows 2003's Results May Vary, which featured former Snot guitarist Mike Smith as Borland's replacement. Truth finds Bizkit looking to the past for inspiration, working with Three Dollar Bill Y'All producer Ross Robinson.

Stevie Wonder has a sunnier outlook on life with his latest, A Time to Love. The optimistic, up-tempo "So What the Fuss" is the first single off the legendary singer's first studio record in 10 years (his last was 1995's Conversation Peace).
